Tourist Day

Since we work in the tourism/entertainment industry it helps if we can somehow relate to our client. To do so we named today "Tourist Day" here at the office. Several participated by dressing up like so many of the tourists we see day in and day out. Hope you enjoy the pic.

Company Picnic

A couple weeks ago we had our company picnic at Moonshine Beach on Tablerock Lake here in Branson. The day started off full of sunshine but quickly turned cloudy and then rained. Thankfully we had reserved a very large shelter. Famous Dave's BBQ catered the meal. Every employee was given a goodie bag which included beads, a mask, and other mardi gras accessories. It was fun!
btw... The photo at the top is of Kelley's Baby Hummer. She finally let me drive it!!!

One Liners
A friend of mine sent this to me today. I have seen most of these before, but they are still good the second time around.
Don't let your worries get the best of you; remember, Moses started out as a basket case.
Some people are kind, polite, and sweet-spirited until you try to sit in their pews.
Many folks want to serve God, but only as advisors.
It is easier to preach ten sermons than it is to live one.
The good Lord didn't create anything without a purpose, but mosquitoes come close.
When you get to your wit's end, you'll find God lives there.
People are funny; they want the front of the bus, the middle of the road, and the back of the church.
Opportunity may knock once, but temptation bangs on your front door forever.
Quit griping about your church; if it was perfect, you couldn't belong.
If the church wants a better pastor, it only needs to pray for the one it has.
God Himself does not propose to judge a man until he is dead. So why should you?
Some minds are like concrete thoroughly mixed up and permanently set.
Peace starts with a smile.
I don't know why some people change churches; what difference does it make which one you stay home from?!
A lot of church members who are singing "Standing on the Promises" are just sitting on the premises.
We were called to be witnesses, not lawyers or judges.
Be ye fishers of men. You catch them - He'll clean them.
Coincidence is when God chooses to remain anonymous.
Don't put a question mark where God put a period.
Don't wait for 6 strong men to take you to church.
Forbidden fruits create many jams.
God doesn't call the qualified, He qualifies the called.
God grades on the cross, not the curve.
God loves everyone, but probably prefers "fruits of the spirit" over "religious nuts!"
God promises a safe landing, not a calm passage.
He who angers you, controls you!
If God is your Co-pilot - swap seats!
Prayer: Don't give God instructions -- just report for duty!
The task ahead of us is never as great as the Power behind us.
The Will of God never takes you to where the Grace of God will not protect you.
We don't change the message, the message changes us.
You can tell how big a person is by what it takes to..........discourage him.
The best mathematical equation I have ever seen: 1 cross + 3 nails= 4 given.

Birthday

Today, when I walked into my place of employment I found a nice surprise at my cubicle. My co-workers had decided to celebrate my birthday(5/13) and had decorated my cubicle. They also showered me with cards, gifts, cupcakes, and even paid for my lunch at the local Thai restaurant. I truly believe I work with the best!

Attitude
My good friend, Kelley G, shares some really good material with me from time to time. I thought I would share with my fellow bloggers as well.
It's amazing how much our attitude can affect the situation we are in. Hope you enjoy the story below
Michael is the kind of guy you love to hate. He is always in a good mood and always has something positive to say. When someone would ask him how he was doing, hewould reply, "If I were any better, I would be twins!" He was a natural motivater. If an employee was having a bad day, Michael was there telling the employee how to look on the positive side of the situation.Seeing this style really made me curious, so one day I went up to Michael and asked him, "I don't get it! You can'tbe a positive person all of the time. How do you do it?" Michael repli ed, "Each morning I wake up and say to myself, Mike, youhave two choices today. You can choose to be in a good mood or youcan choose to be in a bad mood. I choose to be in a good mood. " Each time something bad happens, I can choose to bea victim or I can choose to learn from it. I choose to learnfrom it. Every time someone comes to me complaining, I can choose toaccept their complaining or I can point out the positive side oflife. I choose the positive side of life."Yeah, right . It's not that easy," I protested. "Yes, it is," Michael said. "Life is all about choices". When you cut away all the junk, every situation is a choice. You choose how you react to situations. You choose how people will affect your mood. You choose to be in a good mood or bad mood. The bottom line: It's your choice how you live life."I reflected on what Michael said. Soon thereafter, I left the Tower Industry to start my own business. We lost touch, but I often thought about him when I made a choice about life instead of reacting to it.Several years later, I heard that Michael was involved in a serious accident, falling some 60 feet from a communications tower. After 18 hours of surgery and weeks of intensive care, Michael was released from the hospital with rods placed in his back.I saw Michael about six months after the accident. When I asked him how he was, he replied. "If I were anybetter, I'd be twins. Wanna see my scars?" I declined to see hi s wounds, but did ask him whathad gone through his mind as the accident took place."The first thing that went through my mind was the well-beingof my soon to be born daughter," Michael replied. "Then, as I lay on the ground, I remembered that I had two choices: I could choose to live or I could choose to die. I chose to live." "Weren't you scared? Did you lose consciousness?" I asked. Michael continued, "...the paramedics were great. They kept telling me I was going to be fine. But when they wheeled me into the ER and I saw the expressions on the faces of the doctors and nurses, I got really scared. In their eyes, I read 'he's a dead man.' I knew I needed to take action." " What did you do?" I asked. "Well, there was a big burly nurse shouting questions at me," said Michael. "She asked if I was allergic to anything. " Yes " , I replied. The doctors and nurses stopped working as they waited for my reply. I took a deep breath and yelled, "Gravity." Over their laughter, I told them, 'I am choosing to live. Operateon me as if I am alive, not dead'."Michael lived, thanks to the skill of his doctors, but alsobecause of his amazing attitude. I learned from him that every day we have the choice to live fully. Attitude, after all, is everything.

Easter Weekend

Wes and Joy and their three children came to visit me this past weekend. On Friday, we went to Silver Dollar City and spent several hours riding the rides and viewing the sights. Saturday was fun-filled as well with going shopping at the outlet malls, playing mini-golf, going to IMAX, and also seeing the Hamner Barber Variety Show where we purchased the stylish new glasses seen in the photos. It was a wonderful weekend!

The Master Is at Work
I recently came across the following illustration. Thought it would be good to share.
Malachi 3:3 says: "He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver."
This verse puzzled some women in a Bible study and they wondered what this statement meant about the character and nature of God.
One of the women offered to find out the process of refining silver and get back to the group at their next Bible Study.
That week, the woman called a silversmith and made an appointment to watch him at work. She didn't mention anything about the reason for her interest beyond her curiosity about the process of refining silver.
As she watched the silversmith, he held a piece of silver over the fire and let it heat up. He explained that in refining silver, one needed to hold the silver in the middle of the fire where the flames were hottest as to burn away all the impurities.
The woman thought about God holding us in such a hot spot; then she thought again about the verse that says: "He sits as a refiner and purifier of silver." She asked the silversmith if it was true that he had to sit there in front of the fire the whole time the silver was being refined.
The man answered that yes, he not only had to sit there holding the silver, but he had to keep his eyes on the silver the entire time it was in the fire. If the silver was left a moment too long in the flames, it would be destroyed.
The woman was silent for a moment. Then she asked the silversmith, "How do you know when the silver is fully refined?" He smiled at her and answered, "Oh, that's easy -- when I see my image in it"
If today you are feeling the heat of the fire, remember that God has his eye on you and will keep watching you until He sees His image in you.

An Honest Day's Work...
This week has been one of those weeks. I won't go into detail, but it has been very stressful at my place of employment. Almost everything that could go wrong, has. It could be worse. My friend, Kelley, sent the following story to me. I hope you enjoy reading it.
The story below points out a couple things. First, just when you think things can not get worst, they do. Second, there are a lot of circumstances situations in life which make you ask, was it only by chance.
"An honest Day's Work, Pays Off"

The USS Astoria (C-34)
was the first U.S. cruiser to engage the Japanese during the Battle of Savo Island, a night action fought 8-9 August 1942.
Although she scored two hits on the Imperial flagship Chokai, the Astoria was badly damaged and sank shortly after noon, 9 August.
About 0200 hours a young midwesterner, Signalman 3rd Class Elgin Staples, was swept overboard by the blast when the Astoria's number one eight-inch gun turret exploded. Wounded in both legs by shrapnel and in semi-shock, he was kept afloat by a narrow life belt that he managed to activate with a simple trigger mechanism.
At around 0600 hours, Staples was rescued by a passing destroyer and returned to the Astoria, whose captain was attempting to save the cruiser by beaching her. The effort failed, and Staples, still wearing the same life belt, found himself back in the water. It was lunchtime. Picked up again, this time by the USS President Jackson (AP-37), he was one of 500 survivors of the battle who were evacuated to Noumea.
On board the transport Staples, for the first time, closely examined the life belt that had served him so well. It had been manufactured by Firestone Tire and Rubber Company of Akron, Ohio, and bore a registration number.
Given home leave, Staples told his story and asked his mother, who worked for Firestone, about the purpose of the number on the belt. She replied that the company insisted on personal responsibility for the war effort, and that the number was unique and assigned to only one inspector.
Staples remembered everything about the lifebelt, and quoted the number.
It was his mother's personal code and affixed to every item she was responsible for approving.

Immutable Laws of the Natural Universe
Law of Mechanical Repair: After your hands become coated with grease, your nose will begin to itch or you'll need to use the bathroom.
Law of the Workshop: Any tool, when dropped, will roll to the least accessible corner.
Law of Probability: The probability of being watched is directly proportional to the stupidity of your act.
Law of the Telephone: If you dial a wrong number, you never get a busy signal.
Law of the Alibi: If you tell the boss you were late for work because you had a flat tire, the very next morning you will have a flat tire.
Variation Law: If you change lines (or traffic lanes), the one you were in will start to move faster than the one you are in now.
Law of the Bath: When the body is fully immersed in water, the telephone rings.
Law of the Result: When you try to prove to someone that a machine won't work, it will.
Law of Bio mechanics: The severity of the itch is inversely proportional to the reach of one's "scratching fingers."
Law of the Theatre: At any event, the people whose seats are furthest from the aisle arrive last.
Law of Coffee: As soon as you sit down to a cup of hot coffee, your boss will ask you to do something which will last until the coffee is cold.
Murphy's Law of Lockers: If there are only two people in a locker room, they will have adjacent lockers.
Law of Rugs/Carpets: The chances of an open-faced jelly sandwich landing face down on a floor covering are directly correlated to the newness and cost of the carpet/rug.

Weekend Update

It was scary here over the weekend. We had severe thunderstorms and the power was out Fri night. On Sat, it was a beautiful day...sunshine. 75 degrees. until the afternoon....
I had fallen asleep on the sofa, when suddenly, I was awakened to the sound of my front door being banged on. It was my friend, Stacey. There she stood, hair all mussed, clothes unkempt, clutching her Pomeranian. She was scared. Tornadoes, rain, hail, high winds were all headed our way. She had come to hide out at my apt since it is farther down the hill from hers and is also on the first level.
anyway...
The rain came, the hail stoned, the wind shook... but the apt building stood firm. (We lost all power shortly after. It was out for a couple hours.) The hail completely covered the ground until it looked as if it had snowed.(see photos) The temperature dropped from 75 to 58 in thirty minutes or less. The county had to call out the snow plows to clear the roads. The rain was so forceful that it was coming in around the seal on my front door. I found out later that an F2 tornado touched down on the other side of town doing damage to many buildings.
It has been a wild and crazy weekend.
